2017 is finally here! Join me as I go on a year full of resolutions and setting awesome goals to make this the best year yet. New year, new me (you, too!).
While all of you were out partying at the end of 2016, drinking champagne and drunkenly dancing the night away 🙂 I was on my way home from Red River, New Mexico. A 10 hour drive, mind you. So in between listening to shitty 80’s pop music (seriously, the shittiest . . . and there are some amazing 80’s pop songs!) and my boyfriend’s daughter, niece and nephew giggling about this and 10 seconds later arguing about that, I had time to really think about my past year and my hopes for what’s ahead.
2016 wasn’t necessarily horrible for me. But there wasn’t much excitement either.
Currently, I feel extremely stagnant in life and a little lost on what direction to take.
- I’m living with my parents at 24 years-old
- I have to beg my mom to get me up in the morning when I actually stay at the house
- I spend money faster than I receive it, and I’ve become a complete homebody.
Basically you could call all of these first-world-problems; not life threatening just “life lessening” (yup just made that up).
But there’s a lot of things that I’m grateful for, too.
- I have loving parents that are allowing me to stay in their home
- I have a comfy queen-sized bed that I can sleep in every night
- I am able to work at my dad’s business where I can sometimes make my own hours and make money
So life could be way worse. But I am hoping to make life way, way better. More productive. More fulfilling. More fun. More centered. More gratifying!
2017 New Year Resolution Series
Somewhat inspired by Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project, I’ve planned to have a new resolution every month while implementing resolutions from previous months. So when February comes around, I will start a new goal as well as continue the goal I set back in January, and so on.
That comes out to a total of 12 resolutions!
It won’t be easy, and there’s a chance I’ll slip up from time to time, but I am making a promise to myself to stop living a life of “so-so” and instead work at making each day count. Get my ass outside of the house and experience the rest of my 20’s. Take my dreams off the back burner and reignite their fire. Stop wasting time and start focusing on the things that truly matter!
So without further ado, here’s my first resolution of the new year.
January: Craft the Perfect Morning Routine
Like I said before, I have to beg my mom to wake me up in the mornings. And I mean beg. She thinks it’s ridiculous that I can’t get myself up out of bed at a reasonable time most mornings and I don’t blame her. It is rather ridiculous. But the dilemma here is that I am a bit of a night owl. I feel more productive after the sun goes down and the stars come out. I’m completely undisturbed and find motivation in the quietness while everyone else is off catching their nightly dose of Zs.
Basically I’m a vampire. But it’s quite difficult to go to bed at 3 or 4 AM and wake up like a normal person two hours later at 6 AM.
This resolution may seem simple to some, but for me I know it’s going to take a lot of practice and determination.
I prefer writing things down so when I saw this day planner in the dollar section at Target (in the photo below), I thought it would be a useful tool for my January resolution. For me, crafting the perfect morning also includes putting your entire day to good use. I plan to write out a to-do list the night before to help keep me focused and not waste time on silly distractions.
+What New Year Resolution(s) have you set for yourself? I’d love to hear your advice and intentions for the year ahead in the comments!
Much love & good luck.
