Flowers are blooming and their scents fill the air. Branches are budding with the most vibrant colors of the season. Spring is right around the corner! It’s time to bring some of the fabulous season’s trademarks right into your very own home.
Spring is the time of year for renewal, and that definitely rings true when it comes to our home decor. Combine your annual spring cleaning with these simple and refreshing decorating ideas that can transform your home atmosphere and channel the beauty of this blooming season.
With the Spring season upon us I’ve added a few hints of spring throughout my home primarily with pops of vibrant color in flowers, yummy scented Spring candles, and switching out a few pillows. Last week I went a little crazy and bought all kinds of flowers to place throughout the home. I don’t know about all of you, but every year when the beautiful blossoms start popping out on the trees, I get the itch to get my house ready for Spring!
Break out of your Winter rut and update your home for sunnier days. Here are ways to incorporate the beauty of Spring in a very subtle way, that will hopefully blend into your own personal decorating style.
We know, Miranda Priestly. The suggestion of florals for Spring is not exactly groundbreaking, but it’s an absolute must for your wardrobe and your home interior. Surround yourself with lush houseplants, vibrant potted flowers and as much greenery as you can stand. Spread some small bouquets around the home and add more color by tinting the water to match the flowers. (Take a bottle of water and and a few drops of food coloring until you get the desired color.)
Shine Some Light
Speaking of sunshine, this season demands that you replace Wintertime’s doom and gloom with plenty of natural light. Take down those grey curtains, let in some fresh air and perk up your windowsills with a fresh coat of white paint. Your rooms will automatically look cleaner and brighter drenched in the sun’s rays, and you’ll have an easier time looking on the bright side.
Nothing says Spring like brightly colored decor. Change out your dark blankets and pillows from Winter with some bright and/or neutral colors to keep your home feeling cool and refreshing. Whether you love stacking your couch with a cleaver arrangement of throw pillows, or you prefer laying down a color area rug, bright prints and patterns are always a sight for sore eyes. Don’t be afraid to pair unexpected pieces for a confident combo or make over a neutral space with an accent wall or brightly colored wallpaper.
Through Fall and Winter, we tend to utilize chunky throws made from thicker fabrics. So Spring is the ideal time to swap out those heavy fabrics for lighter and brighter linens. Just as you would change your Winter wardrobe for Spring and Summer clothing, the same should be done for you home. Switch out the wool and fur for linen and cotton. Lighten up your decor and look for lively patterns, pastel hues and breathable linen fabrics that will help you sleep more comfortably as the temperatures rise. Toss some beaded or metallic pillows on for good measure and marvel at how they catch the sunlight like a sweet dream.
Rearrange Your Furniture
Rearrange the floor plan of your living room or bedroom; it’s the ultimate no-cost decorating tip! Moving around your furniture will be a super quick update for the new season and will have you feeling brand new. I often rearrange my bedroom every 3 months to switch things up and give new life to the space.
Enjoying the great outdoors becomes much more pleasant once spring has sprung, so it makes sense to integrate earthy, rustic decor into your home environment around this time. Consider small additions like wicker baskets, tin caddies and burlap table runners as well as statement pieces like raffia furniture or reclaimed wood tables. This is the perfect spring update for those who embrace minimalism and love their neutral palettes, and these pieces are obvious choices for decorating your outdoor space, as well. Coordinate a bunch of different pieces together to create a space that matches your personality.
After the dull days of Winter, give your rooms a dose of Spring with confident, versatile shades of green. The soft versions look refreshingly cool and can be used like pastels. Or, paint your walls a warm, bright chartreuse. Add fabrics and accessories in pink and yellow to make your living room feel like a day out in the garden.
